The Cyprus Review invites submissions for a Special Section examining the evolving role of Cyprus as a regional financial, business, and innovation hub in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Amid accelerating technological change, growing geopolitical uncertainty, and the reconfiguration of international financial networks, Cyprus occupies a unique strategic position at the crossroads of Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The island has emerged as an important centre for financial services, wealth management, investment activities, and technological innovation, while simultaneously navigating complex regional developments that shape economic opportunities and institutional resilience.

This Special Section seeks original, English-language contributions that investigate how Cyprus is responding to these transformations and how its experience contributes to broader debates on finance, innovation, economic governance, and regional integration. Comparative and interdisciplinary approaches are particularly encouraged.

Indicative topics include:

  • Cyprus as an international financial and business centre: opportunities and challenges
  • Banking sector resilience, financial regulation, and institutional reform
  • Wealth management, private banking, and cross-border investment trends
  • Financial technology (FinTech), digital finance, and innovation ecosystems
  • Artificial intelligence and digital transformation in financial services and public administration
  • Innovation policy, entrepreneurship, and competitiveness in small states
  • Capital markets, investment flows, and regional financial integration
  • Economic implications of geopolitical developments in the Eastern Mediterranean
  • Sanctions, financial compliance, and international regulatory challenges
  • Trade, investment, and economic connectivity between Europe, the Middle East, and Asia
  • Risk management, economic security, and institutional resilience in periods of uncertainty
  • Comparative perspectives on small-state financial centres and innovation hubs
